CSCC Students on Sex, Love and Relationships

February 19, 2009 by James E. Donaldson

Outside Nestor Hall and days away from Valentine's Day, Columbus State Students answered questions having to do with sex, love and relationships.

A short survey on relationships revealed some shocking facts, and some ordinary. About 80% of men say they have given up on Valentine’s Day, with about 50% of women agreeing.

Rasheena Ware, a Columbus State student, agreed. “If you care about your partner,” said Ware “then you should show them that you care throughout the whole year. Not just one day out of the year.”

“The entire holiday seems forced and a product of capitalism,” said Robert Hill, also a Columbus State student. “It is one of those Hallmark Holidays created to fill the money vacuum between Christmas and Easter.”

Fear not, there appears to be no love lost for the students of Columbus State. 30% of those interviewed were engaged or married. 20% of those interviewed had children at home.

30% of those interviewed also admitted that they have had sex on the first date.

“I don’t really see what the big deal is [about sex on the first date],” said Tyrelle James, a Columbus State Student. “If it feels right, then it feels right.”

However, some students couldn’t disagree more.

Lauren Daniels, also a Columbus State student, finds that thought appalling.

“I am definitely saving that sort of stuff for marriage,” Daniels said.

Most students were not afraid to share all of the details.

“The craziest thing that happened to me, sexually,” said James, “involved a pair of handcuffs and a carton of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. I’m sure you can fill in all the blanks.”
