For the past couple years around mid-May, Crew Stadium has housed one of the biggest music festivals to come to the Midwest: Rock on the Range. A bundle of mainstream rock music artists will come together this year for a two-day event May 16-17. Past artists include, ZZ Top, Papa Roach, Velvet Revolver, Stone Temple Pilots, Killswitch Engage, Kid Rock, and plenty of others. This year the roster is even longer. Avenge Sevenfold, Motley Crue, Ateryu, Slipknot, Static-X, Korn, and Buckcherry are just a few of chart toppers that are going to be there. The only other place that shares this event is Ontario, Canada. It looks as this year though, ROTR is branching out for more alternative bands. Few alternative bands would be Billy Talent, Blue October and The Used. It is possible that the festival is trying to develop into something much bigger. However, out of all the bands, the most shocking act is the return of Alice in Chains. With the untimely death of lead singer Layne Stanley in 2002, it was hard to imagine the band ever being back together. Chains back-up vocalist and guitarist Jerry Cantle went on with his side projects. During these escapades he met William DuVall. DuVall being a former hardcore punk singer should will be a new touch for the group. The fans will have to decide if DuVall is fit for the role. There has been rumors of more bands to join the line up of ROTR. All current updates can be found at www.rocktherange.com. Tickets are now on sale through TicketMaster.
