TV Review: Rob Drydek's Fantasy Factory

February 24, 2009 by Marcus Wente

Rob Dyrdek is back, but this time he’s without his bodyguard and side-kick Big Black. Taking Big Black’s spot is a warehouse and Dyrdek’s cousin, Drama. Also along for the ride as always is Meaty and Beefy, Dyrdek’s two bulldogs. Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory on MTV is the norm that has become to be expected from Dyrdek.

The show offers comedy, entertainment and some unique ideas. Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory is a playground for a grown man. The Fantasy Factory as its called is split into three parts. One part cement skate park dream for any skateboarder, one part office for all Dyrdek’s managers, graphic designers and other personnel, and finally one part playground equipped with a foam pit and basketball courts.

Anything goes in the Fantasy Factory, from amateur skating competitions, to basketball hoops mounted all around, helping break land speed records, to putting a blob at the end of the foam pit and launching people into it. In one episode, Dyrdek even sets up a tepee in the middle of the factory for a shaman so he can help him find his sacred animal.

Stars stop by on the show all the time, such names as Lamar Odem from the Los Angeles Lakers, Danny Way, Steve Berra, Paul Rodriguez, and Colin McKay. For fans of Rob & Big, and now Fantasy Factory these are the random things that people have come to be expected from Dyrdek.

The bad thing about the show is that it can get old and repetitive. While something different happens every week on the show, things can seem very repetitious from time to time. For instance, you are going to see at least one crazy basketball shot on each and every episode. Some might interpret the show as another Jackass without the danger involved.

If you liked Rob & Big you should definitely check out Fantasy Factory. Fantasy Factory is on MTV on Sundays at 9 p.m.
