Get Healthy at Columbus State's New Fitness Center

February 22, 2010 by Genevieve Dolan

The Department of Student Activities and Athletics at Columbus State is encouraging the use of its new facilities and classes to help promote a healthier lifestyle.

Student Activities and Athletics has open gym and recreation hours, a fitness center and aerobics classes for faculty, staff and students.  Its mission is “to complement the academic program by enhancing the overall experience of the learner.”

Spencer Wade, an alum of Columbus State, stated that “the fitness Center was a place I went in between my day and night classes to get my daily workout in.”

The Fitness Center hours are open to meet that of the students and faculties schedules.

The Columbus State Fitness Center has been renovated and the turnout of students using the facility has nearly tripled. Mike Evans, a student at Columbus State, said he likes to get there early to beat the traffic and get a good workout in to start his day.

Mary Delong, a yoga fan, takes advantage of the yoga classes that are offered. “After a long day at school, it is nice to relax in a yoga class for an hour,” Delong said.

The Fitness Center is located in Delaware Hall in room 082. The Columbus State website www.cscc.edu has a list of Recreation and Wellness Activities, hours and the Calendar of Events for the winter quarter. The Fitness Center is free; all one needs is a Cougar ID.
