Parking Permits Fail to Reach Students

May 4, 2009 by Evan Griggs

Columbus State parking permits are not getting to every student who purchases one. Although students pay $25 to get one, many never receive a permit in the mail as they are supposed to.

Kim Whetmore, a sophomore at Columbus State, is one of the students who is affected by this matter.

“This is my second term here, and though I've paid for my permit both years, I've not yet gotten one,” said Whetmore. “I've had to get a temporary one each year instead, which is a pain because I have to take the time to go to the Public Safety office in order to get one.”

Jen Schoenbauer, a first year Columbus State student, has also had trouble getting her parking permit. According to Schoenbauer, she gets financial aid so the permit fee comes directly out of her financial aid money.

Yet she, too, has had to waste time by going to the Public Safety office to obtain a temporary permit.

Every student that does not receive a permit, however, doesn't seek a temporary one. Twenty-three-year-old Mitchell Nee, a sophomore at Columbus State, isn't bothered by not getting his permit.

“I applied for a parking pass last year and never got one,” stated Nee. “Friends I've talked to told me not to even worry about it because they never check permits anyhow.”

Public Safety had no one availalbe to comment on this story.
